The programme, which started in the academic year of 1986/87, was founded due in no small part to the efforts of Prof. Dr. Gül Işık and Dr. Ricardo Campos Bloss. So far, the department has been headed by Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nihal Akbulut, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türkan Araz, Assoc. Prof Dr. Leman Gürlek, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Yener Gökşenli and Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Zeynep Önal in different periods of time during which plenty of academic activities have been carried out, bilateral agreements with other universities have been signed and Erasmus agreements have been signed for student and staff exchange. The academic staff grew stronger with the participation of Prof. Dr. Rafael Carpintero Ortega, Asst. Prof. Dr. María Antonia Panizo Büyükkoyuncu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. María Jesús Horta Sanz, who altogether, assured a high quality education. Consequently, the department has increased the number of coming students and opened a master’s degree programme in 1995/96 and PhD in 1998. As of 2015/16 academic year it started prep class programme which added up to a 1+4 years of undergraduate education. Now being headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Zeynep Önal, the department continues its academic activities, international agreements increasingly, as well as being demanded by more students every year.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME
Started in 1995/96, the master’s degree programme continues to accept stıdents with an academic team of 8 members. Those who have successfully completed the undergraduate programme of 1+4 years, as well as fulfilling the conditions of application set by the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul University may apply to the programme. The candidates are not required to have a bachelor’s degree in Spanish language and literature. However, they must know Spanish in order to analyse the texts and carry out tasks like presentations o research. If needed, they take classes of undergraduate programme under the name of Scientific Prep Class. A master’s degree student in our department has the opportunity to analyse Spanish and Latin American literature profoundly, learn to discuss literary texts on a theoretical basis. The classes are based on literary analysis and discussion. Besides the classes of language and literature, we offer classes on how to write a scientific paper, how to carry on a scientific research, how to set up a bibliography, etc. It is an enjoyable programme for those who are deeply interested in Spanish language and literature and who would like to continue his/her studies on an scientific basis. PHD PROGRAMME
Started in 1998, the PhD programme offers a profound insight of Spanish literature, helping the student to specialize on a specific subject. Those who have completed the master’s degree programme successfully, as well as fulfilling the conditions of application set by the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul University may apply to the programme. Compared to the master’s degree programme, PhD offers a more flexible attitude and requires a more productive attitude. A PhD student is expected to carry on scientific studies on language and literature, and write a thesis which will contribute to the literary world by offering a new idea and/or opening new horizons. It is an enjoyable programme for those who would like to contribute on an academic level to scientific studies on Spanish language and literature. The classes offered by the programme are as follows:

DEPARTMENT OF SPANISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME
Erasmus+ is an EU Programme to encourage higher education institutions to cooperate with each other in general. This programme provides gratuitous financial support for higher education institutions to exchange students and staff for short periods of time. Our department regularly sends and receives students from abroad through the Erasmus+ Exchange Programme. Our students can study at the universities which we have agreements with and take courses in the fields such as Spanish language, culture and history, and Spanish and Latin American literatures, as well as have the opportunity to get to know the city and country they study in. Students who have the right to study abroad with the Erasmus+ Programme improve their foreign language skills both in speaking and in writing, and get to know the natural and living structure of the language used in daily life. Our students, who study at a foreign university with Erasmus+ mobility, can take lessons from expert lecturers in their field and also benefit from the language courses of universities. In addition, the learning environment they will be in allows our students to improve their language and speaking skills in a short time.

Additional Grant for Disadvantaged Students in receipt of an Erasmus+ grant
In addition to the monthly grant amounts specified in the table, an additional grant of 100 € per month from the learning mobility budget is paid to the students with financial difficulties selected for the learning mobility (SMS). Students who receive a needy pension for themselves or their parents within the scope of Article 2 of the Social Assistance and Solidarity Encouragement Law No. 3294 dated 29.05.1989 benefit from the additional grant opportunity for those with limited financial means. In order to benefit from the additional grant, the student selected for the mobility must apply to the Erasmus office before signing the Grant Agreement and submit the document that he/she receives from the Provincial Directorate of Family, Labor and Social Services to which he/she is affiliated, stating that he/she has received a disability pension within the scope of the above-mentioned Law.

The University of Castilla-La Mancha is one of the most prestigious universities in Spain. In 2017, it was qualified to enter the list of the best universities in the world in ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities). They have a productive semester. The Faculty of Letters is located on the university's Cuidad Real Campus. Our primary goal is to enable students t analyse the interdisciplinary texts of history, sociology and literature.
MISSION
As the importance of borders and boundaries has diminished in this era of internationalization and the Internet, it has seemed appropriate to bring the related disciplines of literary and cultural studies together. In age of globalization, the department offers a wide choice of courses offering insight into both the Spanish and international agenda. The result of this curriculum is to encourage a comparative perspective on the world.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The objective of the program is to develop students' ability to make critical analysis in many areas of social sciences and to be able to express their ideas orally and in written form.
1-Having reciprocal ability to correlate the field with other fields or disciplines. 2-By utilizing the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the field, ability to detect certain difficulties in an issue and offer justifiable results/solutions. 3-Taking initiative to arrange proper inter-personal relations by allowing for all field-related possibilities. 4-Ability to share and discuss the field-related matters with other competent individuals of the field. 5-Ability to analyse and process the given social data by the help of proper methodology/technique. 6-Awareness in the matters of social justice, cultural values, workplace security/health and the universal principles of employee benefits.
